MY SCHOOL JOURNEY
I'm Collins. I was born and raised in 2006 in a small village in Narok County, Kenya. I am the third born in our family of four. Luckily, we had no sister, just a family of four men.
I started my education journey when I was three in a school not far from our home known as James Academy. I used to be among the best students at those times because my parents were really passionate about school. They could joke, but not for studies.
Since our school was not far from home and we had to cross the main road to get to school, my parents could escort me to cross the road and thereafter do the same during evening hours as it had been their daily norm.
I went on with my studies till I got to class six, where our father, who was a dedicated truck driver who had to work tirelessly to provide for us, got into a fatal accident and passed away. After the incident of my father's passing, we got some financial issues, which forced me to shift to a public school, which was also not far.
But because it was the December longest holiday, I and my mother had to wait till the month of January, which was the opening month, so that we could go do clearance in my old school and request a chance in the public school we had admired. Luckily we got a chance, but things were tough, and the act of daily routine in the new school changed. The school had a few teachers who could come to class whichever time they felt like.
Due to a shortage of teachers, some of them could carry more than three subjects in one class, which they obviously missed. At times we could be sent home for fees, but because of the shortage of funds at home, I had to go home and stay and accept the situation.
Since my mother tried her best to pay some, we had to still push as it was. At school, I may sometimes be out of my mind, but I still believe in the good that the future has hold for me. But when the primary national exams arrived, I and my colleagues tried our best and passed. After the results were out, I had three options to choose which school I should take for secondary level, but obviously, without rethinking twice, I had to choose also a nearby school that was just a few kilometers from my primary.
At times I could even watch my primary teachers taking lessons in their classes, which was kinder funny and also encouraging anyway. In secondary school we also continued well, but I was surprised that almost half of my primary colleagues were also in the same school with me.
That's when I knew that the situation was not just around home, which was also a big motive. Four years after form one, we ended up with our national exams at form four and tried our best.
After high school, my cousin taught me how to be a great writer, and I am still working on it till now. I am now an upcoming great writer, and I love it.
I cannot wait to showcase my work to the world.
